Sarah Barnard
Committed to providing innovative design solutions, Sarah Barnard crafts cutting edge, yet gracious interiors that reflect the unique qualities of the project owner and the inherent soul of the architectural site.
Her work has been featured in local and national publications, and has placed prominently in several design competitions. Most recently, she was a merit winner in the Source One Wallcoverings Design Contest in the Corporate Design category for her camshaft-inspired paper, which reflected her commitment to the environment and adaptive reuse. Earlier this year, she was a top-three finalist in the Selamat Designs 1st Annual “Create a Classic” Design Challenge for her Tuvalu occasional chair, earning her the opportunity to create a line of furniture for the company. She also designed a chair using salvaged automobile parts that won “Best in Show” at New York’s Environdesign sustainable design conference.
Raised in a household of discerning taste and technical skill, she apprenticed with her father, a master craftsman in antique restoration. As a result of her unique background and diverse education, she has developed a signature ability to create truly one-of-a-kind designs. Barnard works out of her Los Angeles-based studio and showroom, undertaking a broad range of projects. Recent commissions include a Mid-Century modern residence in the Pacific Palisades, a Traditional Cape Cod home in Palos Verdes Estates and a Montecito Estate with a “Modern- Prairie” aesthetic.
Barnard is a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), which has awarded her the distinction of Associate Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer. She passed the California Codes and Regulations Exam (CCRE) for Interior Designers with high marks and is a frequent guest lecturer at California State University, Northridge. As a volunteer for Sandpipers, a philanthropic organization, her work has been consistently featured during their Holiday Homes Tour fundraiser. She is also a supporter and design consultant to S.H.O.T. (Save Historic Old Torrance), a non-profit dedicated to the preservation of The Olmsted District, as well as a member of the Los Angeles and Santa Monica Conservancies.
