Contemporary Luxe: Children's Rooms

A pair of contemporary luxe children's rooms fit for a beachside family home. A boy's bedroom is transformed into a 'little man's' room with the warmth of traditional design elements and cutting edge details to create a youthful, contemporary space.

With a focus on personality and creativity, Sarah Barnard incorporated custom artwork based on conversations she had with each child. The boy's bedroom features a mural of a vintage Aston Martin inspired by the classic James Bond film 'Goldfinger.'

A little girl's bedroom is full of warmth and whimsy. The smocked pink drapery and antique painted beds are a traditional foundation while the light fixture, custom polka-dot chairs, and bubble murals create a playful harmony.

Above each girl's bed, a custom mural made from recycled art glass features imagery inspired by their favorite things. The hand-painted lettering adds a unique element of personalization distinguishing each girl's space.

California Dreamers: Little Girl's Blue, Pink & Green Bedroom

Sarah.barnard.design.little.girls.bedroom.jpg

Here we have a little girl's bedroom in pink, pale blue and grass green. The fuchsia bench features hidden storage to tuck away toys and blankets. Antique white furnishings and bedding are the perfect pairings with a host of pink, blue and green accents. A re-purposed chandelier finds new life with a simple visit to the painter's studio. A desk once belonging to her older sister gets a personalized makeover for the youngest girl in the house. The delightfully delicate clear Lucite chair adds a feminine whimsy to the pale blue desk.

Vintage hobnail milk glass and pretty pink ranunculus add a delicate beauty to this little girl's desk. An old brass rocking horse from the 1960s sits among a collection of other delightful works of art, a unicorn sculpture from an artist in Slovenia and a watercolor by Klay Arsenault.

Sheer white drapery panels frame the four posters of the bed in this little girl's room. On the bedside table, a charming ceramic vase in the shape of a friendly kitten wears a silly hat of tiny pink ranunculus. Handmade porcelain flowers cluster together in this pretty wall sconce featured bedside. The view out the window is a beautiful backdrop for an oversized reading chair in antique white and fuchsia pink. In pink, green and white, delicate pom-pom fringe trim the edge of this custom drapery.

Sarah.barnard.design.modern.girls.bedroom.jpg

This teen girl's room comes to life with colorful bohemian "Scandifornian" elements inspired by Scandinavia, influenced by Southern California life and antique white furniture inspired by the Queen Anne style. Fuchsia, teal, apricot, and gold--together at last! This teen girl's bedroom color palette expresses her youth and energy. A vintage hobnail glass vase sits among fine art by Renae Barnard and Melissa Halozan on the teen girl's bedroom nightstand.

The textured chartreuse throw, the teal bedding and handmade draperies banded with colorful embroidery in shades of fuchsia, teal, chartreuse, and gold bring the luxury. A vintage-inspired desk and Queen Anne chair are the perfect combination. An articulating desk lamp adds a pop of aqua to the teen girl's study area. Vibrant protea flowers converse with draping amaranthus.
